Partnerships and Projects
In addition to the Fillmore Arts Center, Ludlow-Taylor enjoys partnerships with several others which help broaden and enrich the learning experience at Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School. We have several ongoing partnerships described below. The school also has partnered with the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Hands on DC and Greater DC Cares to help beautify the learning environment. We are grateful to all the community organizations that help to make Ludlow-Taylor a place our students love to be.
The Duke Alumni Club

For the past 20 years, the Duke Alumni Club’s Partners in Education has actively supported the school. Their support runs the gamut and includes organizing monthly field trips, sponsoring two children to attend summer camp, and volunteering for ad hoc projects. For example on Halloween, they organized a very fun, healthy Fall-Into-Fitness Fair. The free Fall-Into-Fitness Fair offered interactive booths featuring healthy snacks such as Spooky Spider Sandwiches and Jack-o-Lantern Fruit Cups as well as cooking demonstrations by local chef Dan Traster featuring nutritious, tasty foods. The fair included obstacle courses and fitness games like Ring the Pumpkin led by Duke alumni and fitness experts from Results Gym. Powell-Tate

From gardening to cataloging library books to clearing out storage closets, Powell-Tate volunteers jump right in! Since last year, Powell-Tate volunteers have supported Ludlow-Taylor through workdays and drives, in addition to getting their hands dirty and working up a sweat. They’ve also helped to make the holidays more merry for needy families by sponsoring a gift drive and have helped the school’s main office cope with budget cuts by running an office supply drive.
Rotary Club of Capitol Hill

The Rotary Club of Capitol Hill partnered with Ludlow-Taylor last year. In addition to the dictionaries they have provided to all third-graders in Ward 6 schools, the Club helped Ludlow-Taylor students start the school year well-supplied! They provided 45 supply-laden backpacks for students across all grades, from Pre-K3 to 5th grade. We look forward to their help on upcoming volunteer days.
Embassy of Jordan

Ludlow-Taylor was excited to have the Embassy of Jordan honor the commemoration of two distinct historic occasions by volunteering at the school: the tenth anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s accession to the Throne and sixty years of diplomatic relations with the United States of America. Throughout the day, with Chancellor Michelle Rhee in attendance, the volunteers gardened, weeded, pruned and washed windows. Volunteers also helped teachers prepare their rooms for the first day of school. In addition to the volunteer labor, the Embassy donated $17,000 to Ludlow-Taylor for landscaping improvements. Ludlow-Taylor looks forward to continuing to build this partnership.
