Pre-K & Kindergarten

Ms. Donette Campbell,
Pre-K3

Ms. Campbell holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Concordia University. Before becoming a teacher at Ludlow-Taylor this year, Ms. Campbell taught in Baltimore City at Emily Price Jones Head Start for nine years and for two years at Lakewood Elementary School.

Ms. Campbell is still inspired by the memory of her sixth-grade teacher who took the time to make sure that every student in his class understood what he was trying to teach: "He did not stop until we 'got it.'" His patience and compassion guided her decision to become a teacher. She hopes to emulate his compassion, patience and dedication so that her students know "if they believe it, they can achieve it."

Ms. Tenina Sutherland,
Pre-K3

Ms. Sutherland holds a B.S. in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of the District of Columbia and an M.A. in Conflict Management from Trinity University. She has participated in the DC Teaching Fellows' program as a Fellow's Advisor during the summer and as a Selector in the spring. She became an Early Childhood educator to help lay the nurturing foundation that young children need in order to grow and develop to their full potential. She loves it when every student can tell her one thing they learned.

Ms. Sutherland also is drawn to teaching because she feels this is the most challenging age to work with. She enjoys fulfilling the important role of laying a foundation for life-long learning. She knows many teachers will come after her to build on the strong foundation that she lays for our youngest children. This is exciting!

Ms. Marquita Johnson, Pre-K4

Ms. Johnson is in her sixth year of teaching. She has a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Early Childhood Education. She has previously taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades, making her well aware of what the children need to know and be able to do to succeed as they get older!

Ms. Rosalyn Fickling, Kindergarten

Ms. Fickling received her Bachelor's Degree in accounting from Voohees College, and her Master's degree in Elementary Education from Regent University. She is in her third year at Ludlow-Taylor. She previously taught in Prince George’s County. She likes the team effort put forth at Ludlow-Taylor where "everyone is helpful!" She decided to pursue a teaching career after volunteering at her son’s school where she found that she loved working alongside the teacher and the children. She is passionate about reading and loves reading to her little ones.

Ms. Fickling believes that the Arts provide a distinctive way of understanding and give purpose to learning. They supply tools for interpreting life's experiences and help to develop a child's indentity and sense of self-worth. She believes that the Arts help bring our educational standards and objectives to life. She finds they develop higher-order thinking and problem-solving, encourage multiple solutions to problems, and are sensitive to the diversity of learners. An art-focused curriculum enriches the students' academic experiences by enhancing the language skills of the children, nurtures the imagination and stimulates the students to be excited about learning.
